New Families New Future is a non-profit organization 501(c) (3) tax-exempt corporation established by professionals who have been involved in family law matters in Colorado for many years. Our mission is to educate and support families in their transition from an old family with a past to a new family with a future.
Robert H. Russell, II, is a recently retired Colorado State District Court Judge. He served as Magistrate, County and District Judge in Arapahoe County Colorado for more than twenty-six years. He is the recipient of the Colorado Judicial Institute’s Judicial Excellence Award, The Metropolitan Denver Interdisciplinary Committee President’s Award and the Colorado Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers Distinguished Jurist Award, among others. He is available for mediation, arbitration, parent coordination and domestic relations decision-making.
Diana Powell is an attorney specializing in family law. Her practice is focused on dissolution cases involving family businesses, trusts, special needs children and military benefits issues. While many of her cases begin with high conflict, Ms. Powell helps her clients settle most cases through negotiation, mediation or collaborative law practice. Joan McWilliams, Esq.
Helen Shreves is a Colorado attorney mediator who received her law degree with honors from the University of South Dakota School of Law in 1978. She dedicates her practice to the resolution of family law disputes through mediation and arbitration. She received her mediation training at the Harvard Negotiation Project at Harvard University and the Center for Dispute Resolution in Boulder, Colorado. She has been named a 5280 Super Lawyer and Best Lawyers in America.
A recipient of the Best Lawyers' 2012 Denver Family Law Mediation Lawyer of the Year and the Family Law Icon Award from the Colorado Bar Association, Ms. McWilliams is also the author of the award-winning book, Parenting Plans For Families After Divorce. Ms. McWilliams is a frequent lecturer on the topic of mediation and conducts a full-time mediation practice in Colorado.

Simon Mole, Esq.
Simon Mole is a former magistrate who resolves family law disputes through mediation and arbitration. His law degree is from the University of Colorado, and he has received training in mediation and conflict resolution through the Colorado Bar Association, the Colorado courts, and from the Center for Dispute Resolution in Boulder. He was one of Colorado’s first Family Court Facilitators, and he remains passionate about helping everyone through the system, whether they have a lawyer or not. He is a member of Colorado’s Access to Justice Commission.
Valerie McNaughton, Esq.
Valerie McNaughton has been Chief Hearing Officer for Denver's employ merit system since 2004. Her legal career includes criminal, civil and mediation practices, and she has served on the city council of Central City, CO. Valerie believes deeply that access to justice must be expanded in order to maintain a functioning civil society
